Gyro Euro Cup

As a keen footballer I snapped up the chance to play in the annual Gyro Euro Cup, Gyro London vs Rest of the World. Myself and my skillfully gifted colleague travelled up the M6 on a typical English dreary day, perfect weather for football.

As we pulled up to Didsbury AFC we got acquainted with the ground and our new team mates. As I pulled my musty ankle support from my bag and sorted which number I was going to wear, I heard a deep northern voice.. “Alright lads?” As I looked up I thought… hmmm, he looks a bit like Bryan Robson…… THAT IS BRYAN ROBSON!. Unknown to me he was playing on our team. If you know about football he doesn’t need any introduction, but if you don’t have a clue about football, he is probably one of the best England captains our nation has ever had. I must admit I was totally awestruck! As it slowly sunk in, it dawned upon me that I was going to be playing with an ex-England captain. The nerves quickly took hold of me. Who am I to be playing along side Bryan Robson?

We lost the game 6-4, no thanks to two own goals (which would have been cracking goals if they were in the right net). The result didn’t matter to me, for 45 minutes I was playing alongside Robson, literally, I was right back and he was centre half. After the match we all had a cheeky beer and headed back down the M6 with beaming smiles on our faces.

It is something I will never forget and I will probably bore my friends and family to death with it for years to come.
