Could this be the end of the IT department?

Hosted Desktop. Heard of it? Not that many people have, but it could be the development that signals the end of the IT department as we know it…

It’s a relatively new concept and there aren’t many people out there that are doing it well. We’ve worked with Nasstar for some time now and it is clear that these guys are doing it incredibly well, so we thought we’d share some information about what they do with you.

So what is Hosted Desktop?

It’s exactly what it says on the tin! Your desktop hosted elsewhere. Hosted Desktop makes computing a simple internet subscription service, enabling subscribers of the service to do all of their computing in the internet cloud rather than on a local computer. Nasstar's Hosted Desktop provides subscribers with access to their desktop, files, applications and email over the internet providing a real alternative to traditional on-premise computing. Pretty cool huh?!

Rather than the hassle of your own hosting and wasted resource on the management of desktops and on-premise systems, all users login to their Hosted Desktop to access the applications and files that they need. Members of the Accounts Department may have Sage included in their Desktop and the Sales Team may have Salesforce included.

The beauty of the service is that not only does it take away the expenditure on core computer services; it also reduces the headache of support, installation and software asset management. In addition, as temporary requirements for certain applications arise, these can be added and removed from the service, making further savings on the outright license purchase that is so often the norm.

There are lots of things that IT people don’t want to you to know and Nasstar’s Hosted Desktop is certainly one of them. No-one tells it better than them, so if you’re thinking about making changes to your IT infrastructure, get in touch with Nasstar on their website or by calling Darren Roberts on 0207 148 5000.
