2008 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the first powered controlled flight in the United Kingdon by Samuel F Cody. The event tool place at Farnborough Airport and Sam Cody’s test flights in 1908 brought further recognition to the fields of Farnborough which had been used for the British Army’s Balloon School.
The British Air Force was then founded at Farnborough, and the UK’s aerospace test and research facility was formed. Farnborough was synonymous with early British aerospace achievements, an this still remains so today.
